Description: CD4532 – 8-Bit Priority Encoder IC (DIP-16)
The CD4532 is an 8-input priority encoder with 3-bit binary output, designed using CMOS technology. It accepts 8 active HIGH inputs (D₀ to D₇) and encodes the highest-priority active input to a 3-bit binary code. It includes enable inputs and outputs for easy cascading.
Key Features:
-
8 input lines (D₀ to D₇)
-
3-bit binary output (A₀, A₁, A₂)
-
Highest priority given to D₇ (most significant)
-
Cascading capability via enable inputs and outputs
-
Standard DIP-16 package
-
Wide voltage range: 3V to 15V
-
Low power CMOS technology
-
TTL-compatible
Pin Configuration (DIP-16):
Pin No. | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | D₄ | Data Input 4 |
2 | D₅ | Data Input 5 |
3 | D₆ | Data Input 6 |
4 | D₇ | Data Input 7 (Highest Priority) |
5 | EO̅ | Enable Output (Active LOW) |
6 | GS | Group Select (Active HIGH) |
7 | A₂ | Output Bit 2 (MSB) |
8 | GND | Ground |
9 | A₁ | Output Bit 1 |
10 | A₀ | Output Bit 0 (LSB) |
11 | EI̅ | Enable Input (Active LOW) |
12 | D₀ | Data Input 0 (Lowest Priority) |
13 | D₁ | Data Input 1 |
14 | D₂ | Data Input 2 |
15 | D₃ | Data Input 3 |
16 | VDD | Positive Supply Voltage |
Functional Summary:
-
Priority Encoding: If multiple inputs are HIGH, the IC outputs the binary code of the highest-numbered active input.
-
Enable Input (EI̅): When LOW, the IC is enabled. When HIGH, all outputs are disabled.
-
Enable Output (EO̅): Goes LOW when any input is active and the IC is enabled; used for cascading.
-
Group Select (GS): Goes HIGH when the encoder is active and at least one input is HIGH.
Package Include:
