Description: Ferric Chloride Powder For PCB Etching
400gm- PCB Powder Fer-ric Ch-lor-ide Powder For PCB Etching Making PCB Circuit DIY Electrical Circuitry & Parts
A printed circuit board (PCB) mechanically supports and electrically connects electronic components or electrical components using conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from one or more sheet layers of copper laminated onto and/or between sheet layers of a non-conductive substrate. Ferric chloride is a mild oxidizer, the copper is etched by becomming CuCl and then CuCl2, in which form it is solluble in water. It is often used as an etchant in a PCB industry because it is cheap and doesn’t decompose like other etchants, and also does not have to be heated up like sodium perchlorate.
Even with fresh, strong ferric chloride solution, it would usually take at least 10 minutes for the copper to be removed. As the solution grew weaker, the etch would take longer and longer. Etching is a “subtractive” method used for the production of printed circuit boards: acid is used to remove unwanted copper from a prefabricated laminate. This is done by applying a temporary mask that protects parts of the laminate from the acid and leaves the desired copper layer untouched. When dissolved in water, iron(III) chloride undergoes hydrolysis and gives off heat in an exothermic reaction. The resulting brown, acidic, and corrosive solution is used as a flocculant in sewage treatment and drinking water production, and as an etchant for copper-based metals in printed circuit boards. Anhydrous iron(III) chloride is a fairly strong Lewis acid, and it is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. However, ferric chloride doesn”t etch everything. In particular, the “noble” metals: gold, silver, platinum, palladium, tantalum won’t etch in ferric chloride. The so-called “high temp” metals: titanium, molybdenum, tungsten, cobalt, chromium, niobium also do not etch in ferric
